New Years Manicure

I'll squeeze in one last manicure for 2014. I wore this for Christmas but almost feel like it would've made a better New Years manicure!
What really makes this manicure for me is the super festive sticker/nail decoration that I'm wearing on my ring finger. I bought this of Ebay in a sheet after seeing it at Neglelakkmani earlier this year, she also links to the specific item. I had to use one of the smallest stickers to fit my apparently very small nails but apart from the size issues I have nothing but praise for this set. The quality was very good, it lasted as long as my manicure (five days, which is like a record this year) and applying it was simple enough.

As for my real New Years look, it won't be half as festive since I'm doing one colour at the time this week away from home. I will have to make do with all the creations I know will appear on Feedly and in the InLinkz below. Last day of Winter Nail Art Challenge today and of course I'm joining in! Thank you to Helena for organizing this challenge.

Happy New Years everyone, I hope we get a good and peaceful year ahead.

Year in review, 2014

In real life I'm not very good at summing up my year and looking back at what I've done right and wrong. On the blog however, it's so much easier! All you got to do is head over to Pinterest and you can review all your work in one place.

I'm gonna use the same strategy I did last year and divide this post into three parts. Part one features the three posts that have received the most comments from the lovely people that read my blog. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment! It means so much to me. The second three are picked by my favourite everything S, because I wanted to get his opinion and also that from a man. The final three are my favourites.

Last year I mentioned that I had purchased on average 20 bottles of nail polish per month. This year I've bought a lot less, I've averaged at about 4 polishes. Way to go me! I've also reduced the number of untrieds to below 100. My collection now contains just over 400 polishes that are struggling to fit in Helmer. I think in a way the rate at which new polishes are being released is helping me "stay sober". Even if I wanted to I could never keep up with all launches and new collections.

I'm not sure I'm going to set any blogging goals for 2015, I think it won't really help me to develop my nail art skills. Last year I set a goal to get more creative and develop my own style but how on earth do I evaluate if that came true? One of the more concrete things I then did was to try and create manicures based on books I finished reading, a nice initiative that I've not really followed through. The book I'm currently reading has a whopping 1900 pages so you'll have to wait a long time for that manicure to show up here!

Reader's favourites (images link to original post):

My most commented look this year is my final look for Valentine's Polish Week. This look was certainly sparkly and fitting to the Valentine's theme.

You also really liked my striped nautical look. You just can't go wrong with nautical nails!

Your third favourite is my pleated striping tape look. I loved this one too but since the accent nail had terrible lasting power and fell off in no time I don't think it's something I'll recreate.

Favourites of S (images link to original post):

This was the immediate favourite of S and I can see why. This manicure really turned out well, there's something about the bright base that makes this look pop.

Oh there is just something about yellow nails!

My fourth look for the Nail Challenge Collaborative, portraying The Book Thief. I liked the colour scheme in this one with the red contrast. And do check out the book if you haven't already!

My personal favourites (images link to original post):

I had such trouble narrowing everything I've done down to just three looks! Some nail art I like more because of why I created it rather than how it turned out. For instance I really wanted to include my histology nails to this list. Some looked real good in pictures but came off the minute I had taken the pictures.

This gradient and chevron look just spoke to me from the start. I love everything about it (apart from the cleanup!).

I like this rainbow pinwheel look partly because of how it ended up and partly because this was one of my first successful attempts at working with acrylic paint. A new door just opened you could say.

Finally there was just something about this glitter and stamped manicure. I love how my nails look in this picture too, short but still totally edgy.

Red lucid dreams

I hope everyone has had a good Christmas and is looking forward to the new year!
Apart from writing this blog post I'm busying myself unpacking from a week at our family country house and packing for a week with S in the Alps. We did a ski trip the same time last year and got crummy weather and a bad cold to boot. This year the Alps have gotten very little snow and now it's really cold. Timing a ski holiday is just about impossible. Fingers crossed it will end up nice anyways! Honestly though, right now I would rather be packing for the beach!

For Nail Art Sunday today I'm posting something I created sometime this fall when I was a little short of inspiration. A stamped manicure without any extra fuss. I used MoYou London Fashionista plate 11 and randomly picked different parts of the design. My base is Different Dimension Lucid Dreams, a highly wearable glitter that covers in three coats. Generosity with the topcoat is necessary!

Polish used: Different Dimension Lucid Dreams and Handy stamping polish in Tangerine.

Santa and sleigh nail art

Time for a Winter Nail Art Challenge post for the Santa and Reindeer theme.
I used MoYou London festive plate 01 to create this design. Since I'm assuming most of you make different priorities during the holidays than reading blogs I will keep it short today and just wish you Happy Holidays!

Polishes used: Zoya Blu, Barry M Gold Foil, KIKO 374, Zoya Happi and Konad special polish in white.

Christmas wreath nail art

Do you remember my Midsummer wreaths? They are back, Christmas style!
Today Winter Nail Art Challenge does ornaments and I went for a wintery wreath. The kind I imagine would hang on my door if I owned a house. Making wreaths also seem like great fun, I'm sure I'd enjoy it ^-^.

These are very simple to create, just pick a couple of shades of one colour and use a small dotting tool. First trace the shape of your wreath and then add more dots as you please. The only somewhat challenging part is the bow but with some practice it's not too hard. As this is a dotticure, I will also call it my fourth contribution to the Nail Challenge Collaborative's December theme.

Polishes used: Sally Hansen White On, Barry M Gold Foil, Barry M Silver Foil, Sally Hansen Going Green, Zoya Holly, Essence Walk on the Wild Side, KIKO 391 and OPI Danke-Shiny Red. I've mixed White On with the two Barry M foils to get my base colour.

Cherry Christmas!

Yesterday was the first day of my planned twoish weeks off from work! I hope many of you also have the chance to take time off from work and breath a little.
The manicure I'm showing today is both part of Nail Art Sunday where the theme is wishlist and is my third dotticure for the Nail Challenge Collaborative.

As for my wishlist, I usually wish for a few things that I for one or another reason have not bought for myself. Lately I would rarely wish for polish, I feel like it makes more sense for me to buy it for myself rather than explicitly asking my family to visit some bigcartel or etsy shop for me. Nothing too exciting is on my list this year and I primarily want to have a good time enjoying the holidays. I hope my manicure in some way can convey that ^-^. I wanted to do cherries and found a lovely manicure by Top Coat It which I used as my inspiration.

My base polish is Pahlish An Caisteal Ruadh, I'm wearing three coats of it for maximum depth and colour. Pahlish has really grown to be one of my favourite brands (if not the favourite brand) this year. I love almost everything Shannon releases, the combination of shimmer and almost-glitter in a jelly base is really a recipe for success. The only thing I don't like is the speed at which her shop updates! Why is the summer and fall collections are already retired? For an international buyer who pay more for shipping than for the polish itself, being able to order my favourites of the last couple of collections would be preferable.

Polishes used: Pahlish An Caisteal Ruadh, China Glaze Cranberry Splash, Handy stamping polish in Tangerine, Handy stamping polish in Intensity and white acrylic paint. (I did not stamp with the stamping polishes, just used them for their great opacity!)

Christmas skittlette

Today's theme in the Winter Nail Art Challenge is Christmas Carol/Song/Movie and I'll try to convince you that my manicure is somewhat appropriate.
One of my favourite parts of the Harry Potter movies is to experience the magic of Christmas at Hogwarts (check out thess cute scenes from the first film!). There are so many great winter scenes throughout the series. Christmas break is also a great time to actually watch all of the eight films or even read the books ^-^.

Let's say you agree with Harry Potter being a Christmas film. Time for the second part of me convincing you this manicure fits the bill today. How this manicure is inspired by Harry Potter: the stamping I've done comes from a hehe stamping plate, hehe026, which draws inspiration from the books/films. This plate has the crest of Gryffindor with its lion in the middle and more abstract patterns you could imagine finding around the castle around it. Sadly the crest is too big to fit anything but my thumb so what you get is a skittlette of some of the other motifs. I hope you like it and think it works today!
The studs on my ring finger are actually circle glitter. Versatile!

Polishes used: Colors by Llarowe The Mighty Red Baron, Handy stamping polish in Tangerine and Barry M Gold Foil.

Studded red holo skittlette

I really can't wait for Christmas and the opportunity to relax and spend some time off from work!
The coming week is my last before the holidays and since this fall has been extra busy for me I'm glad to see the end of it! Not only has my job gotten quite demanding, I have also taken up German lessons in my spare time and it is proving to be quite demanding. It turns out that learning a new language does not just happen, you have to work on it. Preferably every day!

For me nail art is a good way to relax and take my mind of my "obligations". This manicure was created last week when I probably should've worked on my German. This is my second dotted look for the Nail Challenge Collaborative's December theme. I wanted to create dots without using polish and my newly purchased gold studs were just the accent I was looking for.

A word of warning should be issued on my pictures! They don't justly show the colour of The First Lobster. I found it to lean much more orange than the pictures suggest.

And let's not forget that it's Nail Art Sunday today! Even if there isn't a theme this week I expect to see some holiday looks!

Polishes used: Smitten Polish The First Lobster, Colors by Llarowe The Mighty Red Baron and p2 Precious

Glittery snowflakes

Yesterday was my office Christmas party and I wanted to wear sparkly winter nails for it. The party was great and I think the nails added a little extra flair to my outfit!
The design I came up with features a glittery gradient that took forever to blend. Since it was so time consuming I decided to stamp my snowflake design rather than painting it freehand. It also allowed me to have much more delicate flakes. The snowflakes are from two QA-stamping plates. I got these dirt cheap from Ali Express (12 plates for like 7 USD including shipping). The shipping is slow but I can live with that.

The theme in Winter Nail Art Challenge today is Lucia or Christmas where you live. I live in Sweden so we do celebrate Lucia (Saint Lucy's Day) but I hope this less specific winter design is still appropriate for the "Christmas were you live" prompt. We do have snow here too ^-^ (although this year has been sparse).

Polishes used: Estessimo Tins The Mercury, Estessimo Tins The Tribal Turquoise, Estessimo Tins The Notes from Heaven, Sally Hansen White On (base for gradient) and Konad special polish in white
