Blue Damask Nail Art

It is Sweden's national day today! Woot!
Not really a big deal though, we have the sleepiest national day where the only flags are seen on buses and official buildings. I didn't even have a manicure prepared but found this blue and gold look in my archive. It's close enough to our colours so it will have to do!

This is also a review for Born Pretty Store and their nail art store. The item I'm reviewing is another stamping plate, BP-L 007. This is the first rectangular plate I'm using from Born Pretty Store. It is very similar in size and style (with the backing and the sleeve) as MoYou London's plates. What sets them apart is that these plates have a mixture of full nail designs and some smaller images. As far as I know MoYou does either or on their plates. I like the combination!

BP-L 077 has item number 17925 at Born Pretty Store with a price of 6$. The quality appears to me to be on par with MoYou's (although I've used it just once (three different images) and have not tried any other rectangular plates from them). I think it performed very well with this detailed damask print.

I övrigt ingen direkt feststämning i min förort...

Stamping with EDM11 over Asscher Blue

Just a quick post tonight!
This is a graphical stamping design I combined with Models Own Asscher Blue. The stamping plate is Emily de Molly EDM11. As always I had some issues picking up the very detailed prints on this plate but finally got it to work with Color Club Cosmic Fate. Usually stamping with the Color Club holos give great results but here it ended up less holographic than I had wished for.

Polishes used: Models Own Asscher Blue, Color Club Cosmic Fate and Rimmel Matte Pro

Ai Qin An Y001 Lace Stamping Plate

How about some Sunday stamping?
I received stamping plate Y001 from Born Pretty Store earlier this spring along with the nail art items I had picked for review. It was a surprise addition and of course one I was eager to try! This spring we've seen a big influx of plates with lace prints and this place is a nice addition to the trend. It has an all over design that's basically broken down into three images, the lace print which has some doodled flowers embedded, its reverse image and some splatter design in the middle.
Y001 has item number 18403 at Born Pretty Store with a price of 4$, currently on sale for 3$. It comes in a white sleeve that reads Ai Qin An. I've never before heard of this brand but it seems like Born Pretty Store has 21 plates in the same series. I'm keen to try a few others after seeing how well this one stamps. I particularly like the cute summer fruits on Y001, the dragons on Y014, Y015 and the pomegranates on Y017!

The stamping plate is square and measures 6 by 6 cm. It has a blue protective backing to prevent cuts and also comes with the same blue covering on the front that's removed before use.

My base is gorgeous brown (it still surprises me that I find brown gorgeous!) Seasonal Lattes by Smitten Polish. This polish was slightly lighter than I expected but just as nice. The holographic effect made it hard to determine if it leans yellow or perhaps red. A stain alart should be issued though, my nails ended up with a yellow tint after removing this manicure (I wore base coat).

Polishes used: Smitten Polish Seasonal Lattes, Mundo de Unas Fiji and Mundo de Unas Spring Green

Mundo de Unas stamping polish swatches and review

No nail art from me today. Instead I wanted to show you some swatches of the Mundo de Unas polishes I picked up earlier this spring. Mundo de Unas is one of the most well known dedicated stamping polish suppliers. The reason is simply because they all stamp so well and probably also because they are very affordable (especially the minis). A common problem with stamping otherwise is getting lighter shades to stamp well over darker shades. With Mundo de Unas stamping polish this is not an issue. Even the palest pastels looks opaque over black.

When I was planning to place my order I had some issues finding swatches of all the different shades. The images on Mundo de Unas' website didn't seem colour correct in some cases. This is why I decided to post swatches of the shades I got. I know I benefited greatly from similar posts when placing my order. This one by PhD nails was particularly useful to me. EDIT: PhD nails created a new and more extensive comparison of MdU's, read it here.

Note that since I already had 6 Handy stamping polishes I did not order some of the "obvious choices" such as bright pink and red.
1 White, 2 Black and 64 Velvet.
Greens and blues: 7 Dark Green, 39 Avocado, 56 Spring Green, 61 Fiji, 54 Iris and 6 Pastel Blue
Orange and reds: 31 Peach, 50 Pale Rose, 28 Neon Orange and 51 Tulip
Here are the only two polishes I bought that ended up being quite similar. Peach and Pale Rose are slightly different in hue but if you don't plan on "catching them all" (which is tempting) you could probably make do with just one of them. Also note that Tulip is not perfectly captured here, it is less bright red and more muted. It reminds me of a typical blush colour.

Spring Green and Neon Orange has for me separated quite a bit in the bottles. Since I got them in minis they are quite hard to shake. When the polish is separated, it is hard to get it to stamp well. I think this might be why my swatch of Neon orange looks a little dull over black.
Yellows and browns: 43 Papyrus, 26 Pastel Yellow, 46 Mustard, 57 Taupe and 23 Chocolate

For size comparison I've included a picture of the normal size and the mini compared to OPI's bottles. I was a little surprised exactly how mini the mini was! The normal size is 14ml, just a tad smaller than OPI and the mini is 5ml, slightly bigger than the OPI mini.
Mundo de Unas is based in Mexico but the polish is also available through Llarowe. Previously I know they were available at Hypnotic Polish and Rainbow Connection too but it seems they've stopped selling them recently. This brings me to the potential issue with these. The smell of MdU polish is rather strong (I seem to have a dysfunctional nose and don't really have any issue with it) and have raised question as to what these polishes contain exactly. Apart from the smell they also behave somewhat differently from normal polish, to me they seem almost rubbery. The way it behaves means that you can easily remove a stamped image you are dissatisfied with using tape or a lint roller. It easily comes of your nail and skin, unlike normal polish. You can also use tape to do cleanup around your nail which I find very handy, especially with darker shades.

As far as I know, information on the ingredients of MdU polishes is not something the company is looking to expose. On the one hand I can understand this since they clearly have a more efficient formula than other makers, on the other hand it raise concern about if it contains ingredients that isn't approved for cosmetic use. Now that I see that they are no longer available from the European suppliers mentioned above, it does make me wonder if this is actually the case?

I'm not at all looking to pass any judgement but think it's important as a customer to know this so each and every one can make an informed choice about what products you purchase. Personally I love the way these polishes stamp and will continue to use them.

Ingen nail art frÃ¥n mig idag.

Kolla in det här.

Neon Striped Roses

Taking a little study break before the last German class of the semester begins! What better way to do so than by showing you my fourth nail design for the flower theme of Nail Challenge Collaborative?
I have used primarily neon polishes for the base of this manicure (my camera can't really capture the brightness, sorry). I used a long thin brush and added parallel stripes on my nails. By itself it didn't look very good but I love the result with black stamping on top!

This was the first time I used my black stamping polish from Mundo de Unas and I'm very impressed with its opacity. Of course it was equally black on my skin and I spent a fair amount of time cleaning up my cuticles to get this result.

Polishes used: China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise, China Glaze Kiwi Cool-Ada, China Glaze Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, China Glaze Papaya Punch, Salon Perfect Heute Pink and Mundo de Unas Black

Half moon abstract flower nail art

My third manicure for the Nail Challenge Collaborative this month is inspired by some nondescript unidentifiable flower that may or may not look more like jellyfish.
I used acrylic paint and added bits and pieces of colour to my nails. I then used hole reinforcements to add a half moon fairly high up on each nail. The polish I picked was KIKO 300, which I perceived as fairly green but that photographed blue. I've tried to alter then tone to my images but can't guarantee this is spot on. The design did not look very good glossy but with matte top coat it really came alive.

When I had completed this manicure I was actually reminded of a painting I drew in second grade. We were interpreting Claude Monet and I did some water colour lilies (eight year old style). My dad ended up really liking that painting and to this day it sits in my parents bedroom. The manicure got a somewhat shorter life because I got tip wear on the third day.

Polishes used: KIKO 300 and Barry M Matte Top Coat
