Hobby Polish Bloggers: My first Indie polish

This months Hobby Polish Blogger link-up is themed around the first indie brand you purchased from. I remember my first indie purchase well, it was December 2012 and Lac Attack had just released a Harry Potter themed collection!

I believe this was the first restock of said collection, on a Friday night, and I had to go to the airport to meet S who was flying in to Stockholm the same night. I was lucky he had booked the late flight so I could be at home F5-ing away at the computer at 8 PM (if I'm not mistaking that was the restock time), could quickly buy the polishes I just had to have (4 for me plus 2 for a friend) and then rush to the airport to meet him still high from the shopping rush ^-^.

Out of sentimental reasons I have kept the 4 polishes I got in this order even though they don't get much loving today. Just look at my mani, I have a thin coat of my Lac Attack polish on 1 nail! The polish is Dementor's Kiss and is a clear base glitter polish with primarily small black glitters but also some larger red and black glitters. Two of the other polishes I bought also have a clear base with glitter and they feel very much like early indies. Since then I think both makers and consumers have gotten more refined. But then again, when I do look at that thin coat of polish, I find it both pleasing and rather refined...

Den här månadens Hobby Polish Blogger linkup har temat mitt första indiemärke. Jag kommer väl ihåg mitt första indieköp, det var i december 2012 och Lac Attack hade släppt en kollektion med Harry Potter inspirerade lack!

Jag vill minnas att det var den första "restocken" på sagda kollektion på en fredagkväll och jag skulle åka till Arlanda och möta upp S som flög till Stockholm den kvällen. Lyckligtvis hade han bokat det sena flyget så jag kunde sitta hemma och trycka febrilt på F5 kl 20 (jag är ganska säker på att det var restocktiden), snabbt köpa de lack jag ville ha (4 till mig och 2 till en kompis) och sen rusa till Arlanda fortfarande hög av shoppinglycka ^-^.

Mest av sentimentala skäl har jag behållt alla 4 lack jag köpte även om de inte får särskilt mycket kärlek längre. Bara titta på min manikyr. Jag har ett tunt lager av ett av Lac Attack lacken på en nagel! Dementor's Kiss heter lacket och består av en klar bas med mestadels små svarta glitter men även lite större svarta och röda glitter. Två av de andra lacken jag köpte samtidigt består också av genomskinlig bas och de känns alla väldigt mycket som tidiga indielack. Sedan dess tror jag både tillverkare och konsumenter har blivit lite mer förfinade i sin smak. Samtidigt så kan jag inte låta bli att tycka att detta enda tunna lager ändå var riktigt snyggt och ganska förfinat när jag nu tittar på manikyren...

Mix and match manicure

For my second manicure recreation for the Nail Challenge Collaborative I looked through the archive for the stamping theme of May 2013.

I decided on a cute combination from A Little Polish. This manicure was originally done in red-white-blue but that colour combination is too flag-like for me and additionally I didn't have a matching glitter so my interpretation is red-white-green instead. The stamping is done with BM-223.

It was quite interesting to go through stamped manicures from spring of 2013. I believe this was just before MoYou made an entrance on the market and there were much fewer brands on the market. Konad was still king (do people even bother with them anymore?) and everyone had the first few sets from Bundle Monster (I do too) and often enough you'd recognize what plate was used to create a manicure. Now just keeping track of all the plates MoYou releases is a handful! Additionally there was much less advanced stamping going on just a few years back, lead-lighting, stamping decals and foil stamping were yet to be discovered by the masses. For me who bought my first Konad kit in January of 2013 I think I was quite nice to not have quite so much to pick from when first starting off. Now it feels a little bit daunting, doesn't it?

Since I went for a green theme I'm hoping Karin will allow me to join Green Wednesday too.

Som andra bidrag till Nail Challenge Collaboratives återskapningstema letade jag igenom arkivet med stämplade manikyrer från stämplingstemat som var i maj 2013.

Jag valde ut en söt kombination från A Little Polish. Den här manikyren var ursprungligen gjord i rött-vitt-blått men det kändes lite för flagglikt för mig och dessutom hade jag inget matchande glitter i den färgställningen så istället blev det rött-vitt-grönt. Stämplingen är gjord med BM-223.

Det var rätt intressant att gå igenom stämplade manikyrer från våren 2013. Jag tror det här var precis innan MoYou gjorde sitt intåg på marknaden och det fanns mycket färre märken tillgängliga. Konad var fortfarande kung (pratar någon ens om dem längre?) och alla hade de första seten med plattor från Bundle Monster (jag med ^-^) och det kändes rätt vanligt att känna igen exakt vilken platta som använts för att skapa en manikyr. Nu är det fullt upp att ens hålla reda på alla släpp från MoYou! Dessutom känns det som att det fanns mycket mindre avancerad stämpling då, lead-lighting, stämplingsdekaler och foliestämpling hade ännu inte spridit sig till massorna. För mig som köpte mitt första Konad kit i januri 2013 tycker jag nog det var rätt skönt att inte ha så jättemycket att välja mellan. Nu känns det nästan lite oöverstigligt att veta vart man ska börja, eller?

Då jag är rätt så grön idag så hoppas jag att Karin tillåter mitt bidrag till Grön onsdag också.

Text over shattered glass

Writer's block mode today. Less talking and more polishing please!

Nail Art Sunday does Letters/Characters today and I went with a stamped look that also has Harry Potter inspiration (=double win!). The base polish is Lac Attack Beauxbatons Academy and then I've muted the colour some by adding two coats of Ballet Slipper by Essie. Then I've double stamped each nail with two designs from plate hehe035, which has images inspired by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The text is from the note found inside the locket at the end of the book. I don't know the exact inspiration for the shattered glass honestly. The two-way mirror perhaps?

I bought the hehe-stamping plates of AliExpress (link to the seller I used). There are 12 plates inspired by Harry Potter. Do you need them as much as I did?

Skrivkramp idag så det blir än mindre text än vanligt! 

Nail Art Sunday med tema bokstäver och jag kör en stämplad design som också är inspirerad av Harry Potter (=dubbelt så bra!). Min bas är Lac Attack Beauxbatons Academy och sen har jag ljusat upp resultatet genom att använda två lager av Essie Ballet Slipper över. Slutligen har jag stämplat varje nagel två gånger med motiv från plattan hehe035, som har bilder inspirerat av Harry Potter och halvblodsprinsen. Texten är från lappen som ligger inuti amuletten i slutet av boken. Jag vet inte exakt inspiration för det trasiga glaset. Kan det vara den magiska spegeln som man kan kommunicera med?

Jag köpte hehe-plattan från AliExpress (länk till säljaren jag använde). Det finns totalt 12 plattor med Harry Potter motiv. Behöver du dem lika mycket som jag gjorde?

I believe in travelling lights

I can't believe we finally have snow now! Yay! Are you also cheering or were you hoping we would skip right forward to spring? I am more or less always happy to get snow and today I have nail art that fits the weather. I decided to do a ski-inspired manicure for Nail Art Sunday. 

I wasn't able to make Nail Art Sunday last week because I was travelling which is ironic since the theme was travelling. Since this week is open I wanted to stick with the travelling theme since it's not only something I enjoy but also something I do quite often. As you might know my S lives rather far from me so I get a fair amount of travelling visiting him. Additionally I travel just for fun whenever I have the chance. My nails are inspired by the recent ski trip we did over New Years. 

The base is built up to resemble a snowstorm using a layer each of the following polishes: OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, Lac Attack Beauxbaton, Essie Ballet Slippers (to tone it down a bit) and finally Dollish Polish Iocane Powder.

Äntligen kom snön! Är du lika glad som jag eller hade du hoppats att vi skulle gå direkt på våren? Jag gillar typ alltid snö och idag har jag dessutom naglar som matchar vädret. Jag beslutade mig för att göra en skidinspirerad manikyr för Nail Art Sunday.

Jag hann tyvärr inte med Nail Art Sunday förra veckan för jag var ute och reste, lite ironiskt när det var just det som var temat. Då denna vecka har fritt val har jag valt att köra resa nu istället då det inte bara är något jag gillar att göra men även något jag gör ganska ofta. Som du kanske vet så bor min S ganska långt från mig så jag reser en hel del bara för att se honom. Dessutom så reser jag för skojs skull så ofta jag har möjlighet. Mina naglar är inspirerade av vår skidresa över nyår. 

Basen är uppbyggd för att likna en snöstorm med hjälv av ett lager var av lacken OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, Lac Attack Beauxbaton, Essie Ballet Slippers (för att tona ner glittret) och slutligen Dollish Polish Iocane Powder. 

United In Pink, Friday

I hope no-one is tired of pink yet? I know I'm not. I feel like I could do pink manicures for ages, turns out I have a lot of pink polishes. Excel tells me that exactly 44 of my precious ones are pink, nearly half of them are bought this year even. Just like yesterday I made a gradient today, only this time done with glass-fleck like polishes. The sparkliness of the polishes makes the the gradient much smoother in a lot less time. I topped it off with Lac Attack's Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.

Weasley's was part of my first indie order, almost a year ago. It was when Lac Attack released the Magical Musings collection that I just couldn't resist anymore. I'm a big fan of Harry Potter and had been thinking it would be great if someone could make a collection inspired by it for some time. Lac Attack heard me! Since then I think there has been at least three other indie brands who has made collections inspired by the series. I think this is my favourite collection though.

Hoppas ingen hunnit tröttna på rosa än? Jag vet att jag inte det gjort det i alla fall. Känns som jag kan fortsätta med rosa i evigheter. Excel meddelar att jag har exakt 44 rosa lack i min samling, nästan hälften är dessutom köpta igår. Precis som igår blir det gradient hos mig idag, dock med lite annan stil. Dels är lacken mer åt glass-fleck hållet vilket ger att det är mycket enklare att få en snygg gradient och dels har jag valt att toppa manikyren med ett glitterlack, Lac Attack's Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.

Weasley's var del av min första indieorder för nästan ett år sedan. Det var när Lac Attack släppte Magical musings kollektionen som jag inte kunde motstå indielack längre. Jag är ett stort fan av Harry Potter och hade även tänkt tidigare att det vore kul om någon gjorde en kollektion inspirerat av serien. Lac Attack hörde mig! Sen dess tror jag åtminstone tre andra märken har släppt Harry Potter lack men den första gillar jag själv bäst.

Billions of blue blistering barnacles!

This is a recreation of something I saw on my Instagram feed, a dotticure by The Crafty Ninja. What I love about recreating other peoples ideas is that it never actually turns out the same as the original, meaning that you don't really feel like you're copying, just being inspired :) This recreation is my contribution to this weeks Nail Art Sunday at LeLack.

I wanted to incorporate an indie polish as an accent nail in this design and the choice fell on Lac Attack's Beauxbatons Academy. This choice then determined the other colours to use and I picked two shades from China Glaze that I felt complimented Beauxbaton well. In retrospect I feel like the other two polishes are taking over a little, but I am still pleased with the results.

Close-up of Beauxbaton Academy. I know I say this a lot, but isn't she pretty? Somewhat sheer, I used three coats and could have done with a forth, but this is easy to apply with manageable smaller glitters and a great combination of colours and shapes. Not too much, just perfect!

(The title of this post was given to me by S and is a reference to something that Captain Haddock apparently says frequently in the Adventures of Tintin. Since I have only read and watched it in Swedish I wasn't familiar with this tongue-twister)

Det här är en manikyr inspirerad av något jag såg på Instagram, en prickig manikyr från The Crafty Ninja. Jag gillar verkligen att när man återskapar någon annans manikyridé så blir det aldrig exakt samma sak, det är mer inspirerat av, inte så mycket kopiering. Detta återskapade är mitt bidrag till veckans Nail Art Sunday hos LeLack.

Jag ville ha med ett indielack som accent i denna manikyr. Valet föll på Lac Attack's Beauxbatons Academy. Detta val styrde sedan vilka andra färger jag valde, det blev två China Glaze lack som jag tyckte kompletterade Beauxbaton väl. I efterhand tycker jag nästan att de andra två tar över för mycket, men jag gillar fortfarande resultatet.

Närbild på Beauxbatons Academy. Jag vet att jag säger detta ofta, men är denna inte vacker? Något tunn, jag hade tre lager och hade kunna applicera ett fjärde men den är enkel att jobba med på grund av sina fina små glitterkorn och har en jättefin kombination av färger och former. Inte för mycket, precis lagom!

(Titeln på denna har jag fått från S och är en referens till något som Kapten Haddock tydligen säger ofta i Tintin. Då jag bara är bekant med den svenska versionen är denna tungvrickare ny för mig)
