Emily de Molly Seeing Red

Today I'm playing it quick and dirty. First day back at work today calls for something simple.

This manicure has been sitting in my unpublished folder for quite some time without me being able to decide if it's a fail or not... Do you ever have that doubt? Is it bad or is it okay? In my head this was great, in reality it was hard to get the lines to be as thin and straight as I would've liked. Still publishable I just decided ^-^.

Quick note on Emily de Molly Seeing Red too, I'm wearing two coats and found this to lean quite pink on me. The pictures show it as a more true red which I don't agree on. If you're looking for a perfect red holographic polish, this probably isn't it, even though it's gorgeous ^-^. Back with something hopefully more inspirational this weekend!

Idag kör vi snabbt och enkelt. Första dagen tillbaka på jobbet fodrar något som inte är så avancerat känns det som.

Denna manikyr har suttit i mitt miniarkiv i flera månader då jag haft svårt att bestämma mig för om den funkar eller inte. Brukar du ha sådana funderingar? Är det fult eller inte? I huvudet var det förstås superfint men sen var det svårare än jag tänkt att få till raka och tunna linjer så har varit lite tveksam. Beslutade mig idag för att ändå publicera det ^-^.

Kort om Emily de Molly Seeing Red också, jag bär två lager och upplevde färgen som rätt rosa. På bilderna ser det ganska så "bara rött" ut men det var inte så jag upplevde den alltså. I jakten på det perfekta röda holografiska lacket är detta inte vinnaren, även om det förstås är ett fint lack. Återkommer med något förhoppningsvis mer inspirerande till helgen!

Textured nail art

Today's Nail Art Sunday has the theme New Year and I do hope everyone has had a pleasant end of 2014 and start of 2015.

My year has started with lots of aching muscles due to the skiing holiday. Skiing is weird in that it both can feel amazing coming down a piste and so bad due to aching limbs at the same time. As for my nails, they are not celebrating the new year as much as looking back at the past two years and one of the main polish trends. Textured polishes!

Zoya recently announced that they are retiring their PixieDust line and that feels like the end of an era to me. I never owned any PixieDusts but have textured polishes from some other brands and really like them. My favourites cover with just 1-2 coats, are full of sparkles and quickly dry both textured and matte. Even if I don't feel like I need every colour textured I do very much enjoy the ones I have. Hopefully we will continue to see some textured looks even in 2015! And hopefully we will also have a year full of new and interesting polishes. I don't need as many collections as I've seen in 2014 but hope for some truly new and interesting shades and styles!

Initially this look was meant to look like a knitted sweater but I don't think my work with the dotting tool ended up tidy enough for that to come true. I still think it kind of works though.

Dagens Nail Art Sunday har temat nytt år och jag hoppas alla haft ett skönt avslut på 2014 och en bra början på 2015.

Mitt år har börjat med massor av muskelvärk på grund av skidåkning. Att åka skidor är lite konstigt, det kan samtidigt vara fantastiskt att swischa ner för pisten och hemskt för allting gör ont. Vidare till naglarna har jag idag valt att inte titta framåt så mycket som bakåt till en av de stora trenderna de senaste två åren. Lack med sandig yta!

Zoya meddelade nyligen att de ska sluta sälja sin PixieDust serie och det känns lite som spiken i kistan på sand-trenden. Jag har iofs inte själv några PixieDust-lack men flera andra märkens sandlack och gillar de verkligen. Mina favoriter täcker på bara 1-2 lager, är fulla av glitter och torkar snabbt till en både sandig och matt yta. Även om jag inte känner att jag vill ha varje nyans i sandlacksvariant så gillar jag verkligen de lack jag har med effekten. Jag hoppas att vi kommer att kunna fortsätta använda dem framöver utan att det känns hopplöst ute. Jag hoppas också att vi får ett år fullt av nya spännande lack. Jag behöver inte lika många kollektioner som jag sett det senaste året men väl lite verkligen intresseväckande lack och stilar.

Från början var min tanke att skapa ett mönster som påminner om en stickad tröja med sandlacken. Sen blev det inte riktigt så då min förmåga att skapa raka "pluppar" med dottingtool inte funkade så bra men manikyren är väl ändå helt okay tycker jag!

New Years Manicure

I'll squeeze in one last manicure for 2014. I wore this for Christmas but almost feel like it would've made a better New Years manicure!

What really makes this manicure for me is the super festive sticker/nail decoration that I'm wearing on my ring finger. I bought this of Ebay in a sheet after seeing it at Neglelakkmani earlier this year, she also links to the specific item. I had to use one of the smallest stickers to fit my apparently very small nails but apart from the size issues I have nothing but praise for this set. The quality was very good, it lasted as long as my manicure (five days, which is like a record this year) and applying it was simple enough.

As for my real New Years look, it won't be half as festive since I'm doing one colour at the time this week away from home. I will have to make do with all the creations I know will appear on Feedly and in the InLinkz below. Last day of Winter Nail Art Challenge today and of course I'm joining in! Jag trycker in en sista manikyr för året. Detta är min julmanikyr men den känns nästan mer nyårsaktig tycker jag!

Vad som verkligen gör denna manikyr för mig är den superblingiga nageldekorationen (klistermärke) som jag har på ringfingret. Jag köpte den i ett set från Ebay efter att ha sett den hos Neglelakkmani tidigare i år, hon länkar också till exakta varan på Ebay. Jag var tvungen att ta typ den minsta dekorationen för mina naglar är uppenbarligen väldigt små men i övrigt har jag inget att klaga på angående köpet. Kvaliteten var god, den höll lika länge som manikyren (ett rekordlångt fem dagar) och det var enkelt att fästa den på nageln.

När det kommer till mina riktiga nyårsnaglar blir de nog enfärgade i år. Då jag inte är hemma orkar jag inte hålla på att fixa med massa nail art. Jag får leva på det som jag räknar med kommer dyka upp i Feedly och även i InLinkz nedan. Det är ju sista dagen i Winter Nail Art Challenge idag. Självklart är jag med! Tack också till Helena som organiserat denna julutmaning.

Year in review, 2014

In real life I'm not very good at summing up my year and looking back at what I've done right and wrong. On the blog however, it's so much easier! All you got to do is head over to Pinterest and you can review all your work in one place. 

I'm gonna use the same strategy I did last year and divide this post into three parts. Part one features the three posts that have received the most comments from the lovely people that read my blog. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment! It means so much to me. The second three are picked by my favourite everything S, because I wanted to get his opinion and also that from a man. The final three are my favourites.

Last year I mentioned that I had purchased on average 20 bottles of nail polish per month. This year I've bought a lot less, I've averaged at about 4 polishes. Way to go me! I've also reduced the number of untrieds to below 100. My collection now contains just over 400 polishes that are struggling to fit in Helmer. I think in a way the rate at which new polishes are being released is helping me "stay sober". Even if I wanted to I could never keep up with all launches and new collections.

I'm not sure I'm going to set any blogging goals for 2015, I think it won't really help me to develop my nail art skills. Last year I set a goal to get more creative and develop my own style but how on earth do I evaluate if that came true? One of the more concrete things I then did was to try and create manicures based on books I finished reading, a nice initiative that I've not really followed through. The book I'm currently reading has a whopping 1900 pages so you'll have to wait a long time for that manicure to show up here!

My most commented look this year is my final look for Valentine's Polish Week. This look was certainly sparkly and fitting to the Valentine's theme. 

You also really liked my striped nautical look. You just can't go wrong with nautical nails!

Your third favourite is my pleated striping tape look. I loved this one too but since the accent nail had terrible lasting power and fell off in no time I don't think it's something I'll recreate.

This was the immediate favourite of S and I can see why. This manicure really turned out well, there's something about the bright base that makes this look pop.

Oh there is just something about yellow nails!

My fourth look for the Nail Challenge Collaborative, portraying The Book Thief. I liked the colour scheme in this one with the red contrast. And do check out the book if you haven't already!

I had such trouble narrowing everything I've done down to just three looks! Some nail art I like more because of why I created it rather than how it turned out. For instance I really wanted to include my histology nails to this list. Some looked real good in pictures but came off the minute I had taken the pictures.

This gradient and chevron look just spoke to me from the start. I love everything about it (apart from the cleanup!).

I like this rainbow pinwheel look partly because of how it ended up and partly because this was one of my first successful attempts at working with acrylic paint. A new door just opened you could say.

Finally there was just something about this glitter and stamped manicure. I love how my nails look in this picture too, short but still totally edgy.

I det verkliga livet är jag inte särskilt bra på att summera året och fundera på vad jag gjort bra och dåligt. På bloggen däremot är det en helt annan femma! Pinterest svarar enkelt på frågan vad jag egentligen åstadkommit och det är smidigt att gå igenom alla manikyrer på ett ställe. 

Jag använder samma strategi som jag gjorde förra året och dela upp det här inlägget i tre delar. Först kommer de tre inlägg som har fått mest kommentarer från alla härliga människor som läser min blogg. Tack för att ni tittar in här och tar er tid att kommentera! Det betyder verkligen jättemycket förm ig. Sedan har jag tre inlägg som är valda av S, dels för att jag ville veta vad han tycker och dels för att få en mans perspektiv på det hela. Slutligen mina tre favoriter. Förra året nämnde jag att jag köpt i genomsnitt 20 flaskor lack per månad. I år har jag varit mer restriktiv och i snitt har det inte blivit mer än 4 lack. Bra jobbat Zara! Jag har också kunnat minska på mina otestade lack som nu är nere på under 100. Totalt har jag nu precis över 400 lack som bråkar om att få plats i Helmer. För mig tror jag faktiskt att den hastighet med vilken nya kollektioner kommer gör att det blir enklare att hålla sig "nykter". Även om jag ville hänga med och köpa allt skulle det helt enkelt inte gå.

Jag tror inte jag ska sätta några mål för nästkommande bloggår då jag inte tror det kommer hjälpa mig utvecklas. Förra året hade jag målet att bli mer kreativ och utveckla min stil, det låter ju bra men hur kan jag utvärdera resultatet? En av de mer konkreta sakerna jag gjorde var att skapa serien men inlägg baserade på lästa böcker och det tycker jag nog fortfarande var en bra idé men jag har inte riktigt följt upp den. Boken jag läser just nu har dessutom galna 1900 sidor så vi får väl se när jag återkommer med en manikyr inspirerad av den!

Red lucid dreams

I hope everyone has had a good Christmas and is looking forward to the new year!

Apart from writing this blog post I'm busying myself unpacking from a week at our family country house and packing for a week with S in the Alps. We did a ski trip the same time last year and got crummy weather and a bad cold to boot. This year the Alps have gotten very little snow and now it's really cold. Timing a ski holiday is just about impossible. Fingers crossed it will end up nice anyways! Honestly though, right now I would rather be packing for the beach!

For Nail Art Sunday today I'm posting something I created sometime this fall when I was a little short of inspiration. A stamped manicure without any extra fuss. I used MoYou London Fashionista plate 11 and randomly picked different parts of the design. My base is Different Dimension Lucid Dreams, a highly wearable glitter that covers in three coats. Generosity with the topcoat is necessary!

Jag hoppas alla haft en härlig jul och ser fram emot det nya året! Förutom att skiva på detta inlägg sysselsätter jag med med att packa upp från en vecka på landet och packa för en vecka med S i alperna. Vi åkte skidor samma vecka förra året och fick då dras med rätt dåligt väder och en rejäl förkylning. I år har det typ inte kommit någon snö förrän i förrgår och nu är det snorkallt. Att ha rätt timing på sin skidresa är typ omöjligt! Håller tummarna att det ändå fungerar. Burr, hade man inte hellre åkt till något varmt ställe?

För Nail Art Sunday idag har jag ett litet arkivinlägg från tidigare i höstas när jag hade lite idétorka. En stämplad look utan ytterligare dekorationer. Jag använde lite olika delar av plattan MoYou London Fashionista 11. Min bas är Different Dimension Lucid Dreams, ett mycket bärbart glitterlack som täcker på tre lager. En viss generositet med överlacket är dock nödvändigt!
